For over ten years I have dealt with body wide pain, first starting with simple shoulder pain - it wasn't just simple shoulder pain. I have dealt with pain in my neck and shoulders for years. I think I first noticed it in my late 20's early 30's. Back then they called it Chronic Fatigue which was considered a yuppie disease brought by their job, enviroment and their determination to be successful. It was also called the Yuppie Flu as it left it's victims with extreme fatigue , pain in the joints , muscles and headaches, sore throat, essentially making them feel as if they had the flu.
Fibromyalgia, is body wide pain affecting more women than men. The pain last for more than 3 months, most experience it for years before it is diagnosed. The widespread pain affects the upper body and the lower body pain but mostly effect the neck and shoulders is where most of pain is. The slightest amount of pressure can cause excruciating pain. The medical field is still babbled by it's cause and can only treat the symptoms. I have treated it for years and I have yet to find the perfect solution but I do know what exacerbates it. Increased pain can be caused by exhaustion, anxiety, agitation and stress. All of this contributes along with lack of sleep, you can't sleep it you're in pain and the pain remains if you can't sleep, it becomes a vicious cycle.
It has also been noted that physical and emotional trauma can trigger the pain of fibromyalgia along with some illness. Like I said I've treated for years with different regimens that includes medications, rest and therapy. Therapy has helped keep the pain at bay I can say much for medications. Today has not been one of my better days. All you can do is continue to research and talk with your doctor and therapist. They no best how to treat the condition. Until there is a cure, be good to yourself.
